Privacy Policy

TeslaAtlas is a small independent project. We collect only what we need, we don't sell your data, and we try to be straightforward about what we do with it.

1. Who We Are

TeslaAtlas is an independent community project operated by private individuals. We are not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].

2. What We Collect

Account information

If you create an account, we store your email address, an optional display name, and a hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.

Usage data

We log standard web server information (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security monitoring, rate limiting, and debugging. These logs are retained for a short period and are not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Content you submit

Issue reports, validations, and any other content you submit through the platform are stored to power the community features of TeslaAtlas. Please do not include sensitive personal information in free-text fields.

Email preferences

We store your preferences for transactional emails (issue notifications) and product announcements. You can change these at any time.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Account management — to authenticate you, send email verification codes, and maintain your preferences.
  • Transactional emails — to notify you when issues you've submitted are validated by other users (if you have opted in).
  • Product announcements — occasional emails about new features (only if you have explicitly opted in; you can opt out at any time).
  • Security — IP addresses are used for rate limiting login and signup attempts to protect accounts.
  • Platform improvement — aggregated, anonymised usage data may inform decisions about which features to build or improve.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal data to any third party.

4. Inventory Browser

The Inventory Browser retrieves live listing data from Tesla's public inventory API on your behalf. We do not permanently store listing data and do not associate it with your account. Searches and filters you apply are used only to fetch results in the moment and are not retained or profiled.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. We may use browser local storage for interface preferences (such as your selected unit system or filter state) — this data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

6. Email Communications

We send two types of email:

  • Transactional — account verification, password-related messages, and issue notification alerts. These are necessary for the service and are sent only when triggered by your actions or community activity on your content.
  • Marketing / product announcements — occasional emails about new features or tools. These are only sent if you have actively opted in. You can opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link in any such email or from your account preferences.

We comply with applicable anti-spam laws (CAN-SPAM, CASL). We will never send you unsolicited commercial email.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Email logs (records of emails sent) are retained for a limited period for debugging and deliverability purposes. Server access logs are rotated regularly. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our systems, though anonymised community contributions (validated issue reports) may be retained.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of your account, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party services to operate the platform:

  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection on signup (privacy-preserving; no personal data is shared with Cloudflare beyond what is necessary for the challenge).
  • Email delivery provider — to send transactional and marketing emails on our behalf.

We do not embed social media widgets, advertising networks, or analytics platforms that track you across the web.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes we will make a reasonable effort to notify users via email or an in-app notice.
